Wireless Internet Access Policy

The Hiawatha Public Library offers wireless connection to the Library’s Internet service. If you are bringing your own laptop and wish to use the library’s Internet connection you will need:

bulletA laptop computer, PDA, or other device with a wireless interface card, 802.11b or later.
bulletA charged battery. Some electrical outlets are available, but the Library cannot guarantee availability.
bulletCompatible headphones if you wish to use audio files.

Library staff members will not assist patrons with their computer or their configuration. Library staff will not accept the liability of handling non-library equipment.

By choosing to use this free, unfiltered wireless service, the user agrees to abide by the Library’s Computer Policy and Regulations. This policy states the limitations of the Library’s Internet access, the user’s responsibility for using that access, and describes acceptable and unacceptable uses.

The Library’s wireless network is not secure. Information sent from or to you laptop can be captured by anyone else with a wireless device and the appropriate software. The Library is not able to provide technical assistance and no guarantee can be provided that you will be able to make a wireless connection. The Library assumes no responsibility for the safety of equipment or for laptop configurations, security, or data files resulting from the connection to the Library’s network.

Printers are not available through the wireless network. Users who wish to print will need to save work to a floppy, CD, or USB jump drive and log on to a library computer workstation to print.
